This was the boys’ first evening game, away at Debenham. The weather was dry and the pitch in good condition.
The A Team
AFC Kesgrave ‘A’ (0) 1 v Debenham ‘A’ (0) 3
The starting line up was Adam in goal, Bradley (Capt) and Charles in defence, Leighton, Tyler and Finley in midfield and Lewis playing upfront. AFC dominated the first half of this game and a combination of very good goalkeeping and some unlucky finishing meant that the half time score was 0-0. The best chance fell to Tyler who reacted well to a cross from the Finley but the Debenham keeper made a great save to tip his close range flick around the post. The Debenham keeper made a number of good saves to deny Lewis and Leighton. Adam had only one save of note to make in the first half, and the defence of Bradley and Charles kept Debenham at bay. The half time score was 0-0 but this did not reflect the performance of the team. AFC had a great start to the second half; Lewis broke through the defence and scored with a low shot past the Debenham keeper. AFC were on top, Lewis made a good run and put in a y cross with both Finley and Tyler waiting to score. Unfortunately, the Debenham keeper made a great interception and prevented a certain goal. Debenham then had their best spell and after some pressure were awarded a free kick; the resultant powerful shot gave Debenham their equaliser. Debenham continued their pressure and from a corner took the lead with a powerful header from one of their defenders. As the game neared the end and AFC pushed forward, Debenham extended their lead to make the final score 3-1. The first half performance from the boys was excellent but Debenham who were limited to only a few goal scoring chances took advantage of two set piece routines to win this game.
