U14 v Debenham 18/02/12
20 Feb 2012

AFC took on Debenham in a rearranged fixture at the Community Centre. A windy morning greeting the hordes of supporters as the teams lined up. AFC took to the field with Olly missing in goal and his place being taken by Sam W in the first half and Samuel in the second. A back three of Nathanial, Jack A and Samuel for the first half. Midfield was Jay, Jack, Will and Jonathon with Huey and Jake up front. Harry and Oli S made the bench. AFC and Debenham played a hard fought first half with both sides having time on the ball but without troubling the keepers too much. AFC gradually gained the upper hand and it was in this period that Jake took advantage to put them 1-0. Sam W in goal had not really had a save to make as the defence had marshalled the Debenham attack well. Half Time AFC Kesgrave 1 Debenham 0 Harry came on for Jack Y at half time and Oli also took to the field. Samuel went between the sticks with Sam W replacing him at the back. The wind was with AFC but making it more difficult. Debenham had more of the ball in the second half but again were not testing Samuel in goal. Chances were hard to come by and both teams were cancelling each other out. With a couple of minutes to go Debenham got a free kick on the edge of the box. Their right back hit a beauty which smacked against the cross bar. AFC went up the other end of the pitch on the break away with Huey sliding the ball home to make it 2-0 and kill of the game. It was a decent game of football today with both sides competing well. Well done to the two substitute goalkeepers who kept a clean sheet.  Claydon away Saturday. Runners up spot is within our grasp but we have some difficult games against an ever strengthening Woodbridge Town and a decent Felixstowe side. Full time AFC Kesgrave 2 Debenham 0 Footnote: Harry goal drought continues to become a thing of the past as he doubled his goal tally for the season to two on Sunday with a well taken goal for Ipswich Valley Rangers. Just need one for AFC now
