U12 Match Report v Capel Plough 13/03/10

AFC were back to full strength today for the first time in a while. Nick was back and he took his place in the starting line up with Toby, Harry, Sam A, Samuel, Jack, Kyle, Jonathan, George, Tom and Jake. Matthew, Dom, Charlie, Nathaniel and Sam G starting on the bench.

It was a good work out before next week's top of the table clash with Ransomes. AFC started brightly and were playing some nice football. The Capel team were following in the footsteps of East Bergholt and packing their defence and getting everyone behind the ball. As a top team we are seeing this more and more and it is up to AFC to break it down.

It took fifteen minutes before they did and a long ball was pounced upon by Nick who finished well to take his tally for the season to 27. AFC had a chance to go further ahead when George was brought down in the box. The ref pointed to the spot and George got up off the floor to take it. Unfortunately the shot was too near the keeper who saved well. George made up for the miss a few minutes later by adding AFC's second with a good finish.

The pressure was all on Capel but a solid AFC back four were clearing anything that came their way and Toby had little to do.

Half time - AFC 2 Capel Plough 0

AFC started the second half as they had finished the first camped in the Capel half. They went three up when Jake scored his 25th goal of the season. Hopefully Nick and Jake have saved some goals for next Saturday. Nick and Jack were replaced by Charlie and Matthew and AFC continued to pile forward. Sam A was now playing in midfield and George up front.

Jonathan then took the ball just inside the Capel half and beat about four players in a mazy dribble to score AFC's fourth and best goal of the game. A great goal. Jake was replaced by Dom. The manager trying to keep the deadly duo fresh for next week.

Sam A rounded off the scoring with a decent finish for 5-0. This was how it ended. This result put AFC back on top of the table on goals scored. A second clean sheet in a row was pleasing. Good games today from Samuel, George and Jonathon along with decent performances all round and a professional display. All the boys are in form at a crucial time of the season.

So onto the top of the table clash next week. We were poor last time we played Ransomes and can only be better next week. We are top of the league because we deserve to be there. The boys need to let Ransomes worry about us not the other way around. A big support next week so make sure you all gather friends, family, colleagues to cheer on the mighty AFC at Sidegate Avenue. A win would more or less seal the title for us so there is a huge amount to play for. A defeat would not be the end of the world either. Come on you blue and reds.

Note to parents. Early night for the boys next Friday. No sleep overs :)
